Oxygenating Plants

Oxygenating Plants

Oxygenating plants are essential to help provide a natural balance in the pond. These green plants grow up from the bottom of the pond with submerged leaves. Underwater leaves produce oxygen by photosynthesis during daylight hours so increasing the oxygen content of the pond water to the benefit of pond life.

The plants also absorb dissolved mineral salts from the water, thus helping to starve out algae. Some oxygenators also have emergent leaves and flowers that are carried above the water surface, providing habitat for water insects and baby fish as well as looking attractive
